But without doubt what really elevates Varadoiro do Xufre from other yards i have used is the pervasive attitude of integrity from the staff, both in the consciously high quality work and the strikingly fair invoicing which i am pleased to say is completely free of the unscrupulous profiteering vessel owners too often become victims of when in the grip of repair facilities. Here you will get charged only for hours worked and only for materials actually used. A breath of fresh air indeed. This is a yard to come back to time and again.

Thanks so much to Alejandro and all at this remarkable boatyard
tucked away near the head of the picturesque Ria Xufre in Galicia. In all my years running yachts professionally this place stands out from the numerous yards i have dealt with in Europe and the US. The 180 t hoist, the largest in the area, is soon to be followed by a covered shed capable of taking sailing yachts inside without the need for unstepping masts. The yard is clean, orderly and secure – in no small part due to the two charming Alsatian dogs in permanent residence, who’s bark is in fact far worse than their bite. The peaceful atmosphere here is perfect for helping crews concentrate on the work in hand and being close enough to the well stocked shelves of the major shipbuilding port of Vigo, there is really nothing than cannot be got in very quickly for doing any kind of work. This somewhat mitigates the fact the yard is on an island, albeit connected to the mainland via a road causeway. Driving time to Vigo airport is around 40 mins to the south. The climate here is notably mild, well into the winter months. The few unpretentious restuarants in the viillage are inexpensive and in my opinion provide as good an eating experience as you will find anywhere in Galicia.
